Diving off the Line

Bea Winkler’s wall painting directly refers to the architecture of the Gallery, which is located in the landmarked Altstädter Hof since 2010, built after the design by Rudolf Klophaus in 1936/37.

Space and its realization in the medium of painting also are the themes of her large-scale pictures. In her form language, the artist moves between urbanity, computer graphics and natural phenomena. By exaggerating and tilting the perspective, she uncovers the strategies of Illusionism. Winkler studied liberal arts as the master student of Erwin Gross at Kunstakademie Karlsruhe, and finished her studies honoured with the award of the academy in 2004.

Line and color meet in varying intensity in the works of the paintress and architect Gudrun Löbig. With her small-scale works on paper, she creates intimate atmospheres and emotional essences, sometimes eruptively strong, sometimes delicate, almost vanishing and dissolving.

Lines and patches of color lean against each other, connect and interlace in the space. For her diary-like paintings that she paints at night, apart from grease crayon and acrylic she uses less conventional materials such as children’s glitter pens, ballpen and graffiti spray paint; abstract and expressive.
